A
documentary about Jan Krok-Paszkowski (1925 - 2007),
a writer, a journalist, and a political activist during
one of the most difficult post-war times in the communist
Poland. Man-orchestra whose radio voice was even recognized
by the late pope, John Paul II. During WW II Krok-Paszkowski
fought in the Warsaw Uprising, and after the war he
was imprisoned by the UB. After immigrating to the free
West in the early 1950's his political journalist's
journey had begun as he started working for the Radio
Free Europe, in Munich, Western Germany, and later in
the Polish Section of the BBC Radio Station in London.
"To the free world" is a collection of many
voices, including Paszkowski's RFE and BBC's coworkers,
his wife and children, telling the story of a man who,
despite being threatened by the Polish then-goverment
wanting to enlist him as their spy, never succumberd
and never quit his mission of telling the truth on the
radio waves.
