The documentary is a portrait of Wilm Hosenfeld, a German Army officer who saved composer Wladyslaw Szpilman wandering about the ruins of Warsaw and himself died in a Soviet concentration camp after the war. A well documented story narrated by the captain's children as well as the sons of Poles whom Hosenfeld saved from death.
