The
fascinating story of Peter Raina, a Hindu academic who's
studies brought him to Poland in 1962 and changed the
course of his life. Raina who today is known as an expert
on the history of Polish Catholicism, spent his youth
absorbing Poland's counter culture, ingratiating himself
with the intelligentsia, artists, and political circles
who didn't accept the communist regime. During this
time he married Barbara, a Polish woman whose love and
support kept him in the country furthering his work.
However idyllic it seemed, They Took His Love Away looks
at the hidden secret Peter's life was founded on. Years
after his wife died and Poland's post-communist government
declassified certain documents, Peter finds out that
his wife was an informant who for years gave information
about him to the government. An incredible revelation
for a person, this documentary interviews Peter and
those who knew his wife and situation, pulling us into
the time and context where political intrigue filtered
through all human contact.
