GOLDEN
TEETH AWARD OF THE POLISH FILM FESTIVAL IN AMERICA
FOR "IMMENSITY OF JUSTICE"
Immensity
of Justice, a film directed by Wieslaw Saniewski,
has received "Golden Teeth" Award, main
audience jury prize for the most interesting feature
film of the Polish Film Festival in America which
19th edition has just closed in Chicago. The thrilling
courtroom drama was produced by Saco Films.
The
First Day, a film by Marcin Sauter about first
graders brought to school from far away tundra in
Russia has received the main award in a category of
documentary films. The film was produced by Eureka
Media.
Special
"Wings" Award for outstanding achievements
in the art of film was given to the Oscar-winning
art director Allan Starski (Schindler's List,
The Pianist).
The
Polish Film Festival in America (PFFA) is the world's
most extensive presentation of Polish cinema outside
of Poland. This year, over 60 films were shown in
five movie theatres in the Chicagoland in a span of
sixteen days. Many screenings were followed by discussions
with visiting filmmakers. In retrospective programs
the festival presented a continued showcase of Pola
Negri's films, this time her early works with Ernst
Lubitsch. The event also celebrated the 50th anniversary
of the Polish Film School showing early films by Andrzej
Wajda, Kazimierz Kutz, Janusz Morgenstern and others.
The
major sponsors of the 19th PFFA were "Chicago
Tribune", ABC, Citibank, LOT Polish Airlines,
State Farm Insurance, and Polish Film Institute.
