How
may we express respect with camera and microphone in
hand? By examining the life of a human being, his experience
in a careful, amiable and favorable way, Karabasz once
said. Here he portrays everyday life of three men of
a different age who live and work at the same Koszykowa
street in Warsaw. It's the street, as the director confides
in an of-screen voice, "he walks down almost every
day." Franciszek has been training dogs for sixty
years, Ryszard supervises the budget bookstore, and
Bartek play an oboe…

Karabasz
Born in 1930 in Bydgosz. A classic of the postwar II
Polish documentary. Graduate of the National Lodz Film
School (Film Directing, 1956). Since leaving the school
he has worked for the Documentary Film Studio in Warsaw,
collaborated with Polish National Newsreel, and recently
with Kronika Film Studio. Professor in his alma mater.
Author of three books on documentary film. He made a
great number of award winning films, of which particularly
his works from the 60's were most influential on the
whole generation of European filmmakers, like: Musicians
(Muzykanci, 1960), Golden Lion in Venice, Golden Gate
in San Francisco, Grand Prix in Oberhausen and Leipzig;
In a Way (W drodze, 1960), Jury Award in Tours '62;
A Year of Franek W. (Rok Franka W., 1968), Award in
Oberhausen and Golden Lajkonik in Cracow. In 2006 he
received Dragon of the Dragons Lifetime Achievement
Award at the Cracow FF.
