The
Homeless World Cup in street soccer was held in July
of 2003 in Graz, Austria. 18 teams took part including
homeless from Poland, the U.K., the United States, Russia,
Brasil, South Africa. The objective of the tournament
is to change social attitude towards homelessness. However,
for the participants it's also a chance of gaining self-respect.
In ordinary life they are often losers without home
and job, but with many problems like alcoholism, drugs,
crime. Now they get the opportunity to turn into winners,
and perheps even the world champions.
Miroslaw
Dembinski
Born
in 1959 in Bydgoszcz. Director, scriptwriter, film educator.
Graduated from the Institute of Mathematics, Physics
and Chemistry at the Mikolaj Kopernik University in
Torun (1983), then from the National Lodz Film School
(Film Directing, 1990). Active in the student theatrical
movement until 1981. Completed a number of feature films
including Taranthiller (1993) and The Call (Wezwanie,
1996). Since 1990 he has made numerous award winning
documentaries. Professor at the National Lodz Film School,
Faculty of Documentary Film.
